<image:title>Labor & Industry Events - Career Day in the Park School Supply Drive</image:title>
<image:caption>Happy faces all around is what you saw at this year’s annual career day in the park school supply drive, held at the All-kids Park off highway 31 in Athens, AL on Saturday, July 22, 2023, 10 am – 2 pm. The location for the event was perfect says Ms. Tammy Rogers, this year’s programs chairperson. She reported that support for the back-to-school day event was stellar, with over one hundred bookbags distributed to students participating in a well attended event. The committee took in two new members, Carolyn Farrar and Thelma Potts, during the event. The Limestone County Board of Education is an annual contributing supporter of the event. A local business owner, Keke Jones, provided the bookbags and members of the Zeta Sorority were in attendance and contributed school supplies as well.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Wilbert Woodruff has served as the President of the Limestone County NAACP for sixteen years. Before becoming President, he served as vice President for many years. Even before serving in any elected position, he was just as dedicated to the work of the Limestone County NAACP as a volunteer in many capacities. Wherever he is needed, that is where he always is. Because of his love for the Athens Limestone County Community, he has a passion for the work of civil rights for everyone and feels certain that he has been called to do this work. In addition to serving in the Limestone County Branch he also serves as 2nd Vice President of the Alabama State Conference NAACP. His dedication to civil rights is just as fierce throughout Alabama. Wilbert retired from 3M Company in 2015 after 39 years of employment. He and his wife Janice have 2 adult sons and nine grandchildren. Wilbert enjoys family gatherings and singing in the family choir as well. Wilbert has served as Deacon for twenty-nine years and has been a member of David’s Temple M.B. Church for fifty years. Wilbert thrives to serve.</image:caption>

<image:title>Health - Black health matters, and our work on behalf of families has never been more urgent.</image:title>
<image:caption>Everyone has a right to good health and well-being, but America's promise has fallen short. Individual health does not exist in a vacuum. It is tied to the community conditions in which we are born, grow, live, work, and age. For people of color, geography, income, and race are longstanding predictors of health outcomes. The roots of historic inequity run deep in fragmented public and private health systems and disadvantaged opportunities across the lifespan. NAACP is committed to ending racial health disparities. Our aim is not simply disease prevention, but to create an inclusive culture of healthy people and communities. We collaborate with communities through coordinated action to improve the social determinants of health — racism, poverty, exclusion, inferior schools, unsafe housing, poor nutrition, and toxic environments. We disrupt the status quo by working at the intersection of policy and systems change to drive sustainable impact for the sake of our future. Throughout the world, the coronavirus pandemic has underscored how important it is for a healthy nation to offer its residents robust health care options. In the U.S., our collective unwillingness to ensure affordable, accessible, quality, and timely health care for all has cost too many Black lives and unnecessarily compromised our nation's health and economic security. The U.S. is overdue for a health care system that truly bolsters health for all its people rather than fragments them further.</image:caption>

<image:title>Youth Works - The next generation of civil rights leaders find a home and support at NAACP. These youth bring the vibrancy and unique perspective that continues our legacy of advocating for Black lives.</image:title>
<image:caption>OUT FRONT. OUTSPOKEN. The next generation of civil rights leaders is making waves now. Young people under the age of 25 are leading change through 550 junior youth councils, youth councils, high school chapters, and college chapters actively involved in the fight for civil rights and social justice. We want to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights without discrimination based on race by developing a new generation of civil rights and community leaders. We aim to: Inform youth of the problems affecting African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities Advance the economic, educational, social, and political status of African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities, and their harmonious cooperation with other peoples Stimulate an appreciation of the African Diaspora and other people of color's contribution to civilization Develop an intelligent, effective youth leadership</image:caption>

<image:title>Political Action - MOBILIZING the vote</image:title>
<image:caption>Some of us not only have a right to vote, we have an obligation to vote. We must not disrespect nor dishonor those who greatly sacrificed, and some who gave their lives for our right to vote. We must resolve to vote more so than ever in this era of ramped up ,intense voter suppression laws and maps. We cannot give up on our vote. If we give up on our vote, we assist in the efforts to suppress our vote. We have work to do. We have to register those who are not registered. We have to help more people get their right to vote back. We have to help more people who need to vote absentee to do so. We have to listen to what issues are important to our people, and help them to understand that their vote is their voice.</image:caption>

<image:title>Economic Development - Economic equity is crucial to racial equity. An inclusive economy means everyone can contribute and earn with fair access to resources and opportunity.</image:title>
<image:caption>The so-called American dream is out of reach. A great deal of research confirms what we already know — investments in communities of color are paramount to mitigating racism and historic disinvestment. Existing policy is insufficient. White families typically make 10 times that of Black families, one of many financial gaps that come from decades of discriminatory policies and nearly three centuries of slavery. There are extreme disparities in employment, home ownership, and housing affordability in the Black community. Closing the revenue gap between Black and white businesses would generate an additional $290 billion for the U.S. economy. The lack of racial equity in how the American economy functions severely impacts Black people, who are systematically restricted from being fully realized participants. Economic equity is a crucial part of establishing holistic racial equity for Black people. It's not just important that Black people be able to contribute to the economy as workers and consumers, but also as owners with the same access to resources and chance at success as anyone.</image:caption>

<image:title>Criminal Justice - CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: LAW ENFORCEMENT</image:title>
<image:caption>The criminal justice system is heavily impacted by the bias of police mentality, as well as outdated judicial precedents. It is largely driven by racial disparities, which directly obstruct and deconstruct our minority communities. Law enforcement officials are responsible for the investigation of a crime and to gather evidence to identify and use against the presumed perpetrator. The presumption upon which they are supposed to operate is that individuals are suspects and innocent until proven guilty. As of 2018, there are 686,665 full-time employed law enforcement officials across the United States. The Fourth Amendment prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures and is the foundation for the protections included in our Miranda Rights: "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be held against you in the court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you." A Black person is five times more likely to be stopped without just cause than a white person. A Black man is twice as likely to be stopped without just cause than a Black woman. 65% of Black adults have felt targeted because of their race. Similarly, approximately 35% of Latino and Asian adults have felt targeted because of race.</image:caption>

<image:title>Education - We advocate for equitable local, state, and federal policies that establish education standards, allocate resources, and set priorities for education and workforce systems.</image:title>
<image:caption>Every child deserves an opportunity to reach their full potential. But our education systems are collapsing under inequity, and it's mostly because of poverty. Students who experience severe economic obstacles perform worse than students who have access to more wealth. To bridge these gaps and ensure that all children get a real chance at a fulfilling education, we need to address systemic racism and poverty as tangible barriers to learning and future achievement. Every Black student deserves access to great teaching, equitable resources, and a safe learning environment from grade school classrooms to college campuses. Black students matter and working on their behalf has never been more urgent.</image:caption>
